Attention Parents of Children in North Carolina Schools:
There is a threat to girls’ privacy and safety in North Carolina schools. A growing number of girls, as young as elementary school, are having to endure the presence of boys in their bathrooms and locker rooms. Girls feel threatened by their presence in bathrooms and feel humiliated and violated by having to undress in front of them in locker rooms.
In 1972, Congress enacted a law to protect women and girls from discrimination in programs receiving federal funds. According to the U.S. Department of Education, this threat and humiliation constitutes discrimination and is a violation of Title IX. The Department has taken action against states and counties that have allowed this discrimination to continue.
It is time for North Carolina parents to stand up for their daughters. If your daughter has confronted boys in the school bathroom or locker rooms and has suffered humiliation, intimidation, fear or other harm, join other parents across North Carolina by filing a Title IX complaint with the U.S. Department of Education. We need to join together to stop this assault on the privacy and safety of our daughters.
