NC Values Releases Social Media Video: Roy Cooper Wants Boys in Girls’ Private Spaces

NC Values has released a short video on our social media accounts on Facebook, Instagram, and X titled “Roy Cooper Wants Boys in Girls’ Private Spaces” to remind North Carolinians that Roy Cooper has promised that he will keep fighting for radical, far-left gender ideology at the expense of the safety and dignity of young girls in our state.

The footage of Roy Cooper speaking in this video is from a press conference on March 30, 2017 when he was serving as NC Governor (see entire transcript below). He was announcing the signing of legislation to repeal House Bill 2, the Public Facilities Privacy & Security Act, which prevented biological males from entering female private spaces like bathrooms and locker rooms. In the press conference Cooper promised to continue to fight for a full repeal of all the bill’s provisions. But in the midst of virtue signaling to radical, far-left ideologues seeking to convince the public that biology is not reality and that real women have no rights – he completely abandoned North Carolina girls.

He abandoned girls like Addy Baxter, who also appears in the video. Addy is currently a 10th grader at Mount Pleasant High school in Cabarrus County, North Carolina. In Cabarrus County, there is no policy to prevent males from entering female private spaces in public K-12 schools. There have been reports from at least three different high schools of female students encountering males in the bathroom. This summer the Trump Administration launched an investigation in Cabarrus County for violating the President’s executive order designating private spaces by biology. Two federal lawsuits have been filed against the Cabarrus County School Board by parents.

Boys Are Entering Girls’ Private Spaces All Over North Carolina

During the last decade, gender ideology – the idea that a person can be “born in the wrong body” – has harmed children across our state and nation. Children’s bodies have been mutilated. Women and girls have lost the opportunity for fair competition in sports. And women and girls have been forced to share their private spaces – like bathrooms and locker rooms – with males.

In North Carolina, girls in public schools are currently being asked to forfeit their safety, privacy, and dignity in private spaces at public schools. Many are doing so in silence, because they face accusations that they are bigoted, backwards, and hateful if they speak out.

This problem is festering across North Carolina. There have been reported cases, even in elementary schools, of boys entering girls’ private facilities in Union County, Wake County, Orange County, Buncombe County, Cabarrus County, Henderson County, and the list goes on.

Ironically, many are not “gender-confused” boys, but boys entering female private spaces simply because they know they can. As one father told us, these are “boys with beards wearing cargo shorts.” The boys are loitering in girls’ vulnerable spaces and gawking at the girls in their most vulnerable situations. North Carolina girls have told us they are afraid to change their clothes in the locker rooms or use the bathroom facilities. Reportedly, in Buncombe County, there was a sexual assault. In Cabarrus, reportedly, the boys have exposed themselves to the girls.

Across the state, parents and young girls have pleaded with school boards to help, but nothing has been done in every single county except Catawba County. All of this is the result of Roy Cooper’s failure as Governor to protect our daughters.

Roy Cooper’s Dismal Record On Women and Parents’ Rights

During his time as governor, Roy Cooper repeatedly used his veto power to oppose legislation to protect women and girls’ rights, and parents’ rights. In 2023, he vetoed the Fairness in Women’s Sports Act, which would have prohibited males from participating on female sports teams in middle school, high school and college; the General Assembly subsequently overrode his veto and enacted the law. Cooper also vetoed the Parents’ Bill of Rights, which established numerous parental rights in education and health care, including requiring schools to notify parents about certain changes in their child’s physical or mental health and prohibiting instruction on gender identity and sexuality in kindergarten through fourth grade; the legislature overrode that veto as well.
