1. NC VALUES: Blessed Good Friday and Easter weekend.
The team at NC Values wishes you and your family a blessed Good Friday and Easter.
“‘Don’t be alarmed,’ he said. ‘You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen!” (Mark 16:6)
He is risen indeed!
2. NC VALUES: 🩺 Women’s Health Matters
The FDA betrayed women when it removed the in-person doctor visits and ongoing care it originally deemed necessary for the use of abortion drugs. Since 2016, the agency has scrapped nearly every safety measure (including in-person doctor visits for women, only allowing a doctor to prescribe the drugs, and reporting all serious complications), acknowledging that women harmed by these drugs would need to rely on overcrowded emergency rooms and conceding that studies used to justify the decision were “not adequate.” Unfortunately, as we noted in our op-ed, 1 out of 25 women who use this method end up in the emergency room.
Earlier this week, the Supreme Court of the United States heard oral arguments in the case FDA v. Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine. At the heart of it is addressing the question of whether to require the FDA to honor its duty to protect women’s health and reinstate its safety standards.
In response, our Executive Director, Tami Fitzgerald, and our Donor Relations Officer, Chloe Howe, were at the steps of the Supreme Court with pro-life leaders and doctors from across the country rallying against the FDA’s pro-abortion politicking, and in favor of women’s health. For more information on FDA v. Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine, make sure to check out this amicus brief filed by our sister organization, the Institute for Faith and Family (IFF). You can also check out this speech we prepared for the rally, as well as photos and 1-on-1 video interviews with lawyers and doctors involved in the case.

“In 2021, the FDA lifted medically unnecessary in-person dispensing requirements for mifepristone, including allowing it to be mailed directly to patients. Prior to that In 2016, the FDA changed its labels to allow use at home, up to 10 weeks. It also allowed for any authorized healthcare provider to prescribe the medication, as opposed to just physicians. ‘Each one of those safety precautions has been removed by the FDA to advance a political agenda in the last few years,’ said Tami Fitzgerald, the executive director of NC Values Coalition. ‘Those precautions were in place for 16 years, but they’ve all been removed now.’ A study by Guttmacher Institute shows more than 63% of abortions in the country are induced using this method – instead of surgery. ”

4. CAROLINA JOURNAL: Appeals Court rejects injunction in state Senate redistricting lawsuit
“Federal Appeals Court has decided not to grant an injunction in a lawsuit challenging North Carolina’s new state Senate election map. The decision announced Thursday means the state is unlikely to face any changes to the remaining 2024 electoral calendar.
The Appeals Court decision upholds US District Judge James Dever’s Jan. 26 ruling rejecting an injunction.”
