Our Team is Growing!

We have exciting news to share—our NC Values team is growing! As we continue to advocate for pro-life, pro-family, and pro-religious freedom policies in North Carolina, we recognize the importance of having a strong, dedicated team to stand in the gap. Today, we’re thrilled to introduce you to two new members who will help us expand our impact: Ashley Vaughan and Joseph Backholm.

Ashley Vaughan
Press & Political Director

Ashley is a lifelong North Carolina resident, a wife and mother, a nurse and educator, and a passionate defender of life, family, and freedom. With degrees in History and Nursing from UNC-Chapel Hill, Ashley has firsthand experience caring for premature infants in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, working closely with families navigating the joys and challenges of parenthood. She later pursued a PhD in Nursing at UNC, focusing on families of children with Down syndrome and the resilience they develop.

Most recently, Ashley served as the Campaign Manager for a successful U.S. House of Representatives race, gaining invaluable political experience. Now, she’s bringing her expertise in healthcare, academia, and advocacy to NC Values—fighting against harmful gender treatments, assaults on parental rights, and threats to the dignity of life at every stage.

Joseph Backholm
Government Affairs Advisor

Joseph Backholm joins NC Values with an extensive background in law, policy, and public advocacy. He’s an attorney and combines extensive legal, political, and policy experience with a love for the way biblical truth cultivates human flourishing. He also serves as a Senior Fellow for Biblical Worldview at the Family Research Council and has contributed to numerous publications addressing faith and culture.

Previously, Joseph served as the President and General Counsel of the Family Policy Institute of Washington, leading legislative and electoral efforts to protect biblical values. He has launched impactful media campaigns, advised lawmakers, and even spearheaded three ballot initiatives on marriage and gender privacy. With his legal expertise and passion for truth, Joseph is a powerful addition to our team.
