NC VALUES VOWS TO FIGHT ABORTION INDUSTRY’S ATTEMPT TO INCREASE DANGEROUS CHEMICAL ABORTIONS BY DOWNGRADING CARE FOR WOMEN

RALEIGH, N.C. – A North Carolina abortionist is suing the state challenging a law requiring pregnant women to see a physician in person before being prescribed chemical abortion pills. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has given permission to pharmacies to dispense chemical abortion pills, a rule which would violate North Carolina’s law. NC Values Coalition cautioned about the dangers to women in taking these abortifacients without medical supervision, and stated the organization would fight any attempts to weaken medical precautions for women seeking chemical abortions.

“Without an ultrasound, women won’t know the gestational age of their baby, or if they have an ectopic pregnancy, which is life-threatening. Women need to be seen by doctors before taking these dangerous pills,” said Executive Director of NC Values Coalition Tami Fitzgerald. “What women don’t understand is they can end up delivering their dead baby in the toilet or bathtub. This is another money-making ploy by the billion-dollar abortion industry which positions itself as pro-woman, while putting women’s lives in danger for profit.”

The rate of abortion pill related emergency room visits has increased more than 500 percent over the past 15-years, higher than visits related to surgical abortions, according to a peer-reviewed study of 423,000 abortions in the U.S. Side effects from abortion pills includes hemorrhaging, retained pregnancy tissue and body parts, follow-up surgery or even death.

The abortion industry is pushing to repeal this law to allow telemedicine appointments for abortion with dispensing directly from pharmacies.  The industry is also attempting to dodge the law and increase profits by offering mail order pills from out of state and from out of the country. NC Values will be advocating to prohibit advertising and mail orders of abortion pills. Currently chemical abortions make up 59 percent of abortions in North Carolina.

“The abortion industry is preying on desperate girls and women who think there’s a pill to make their pregnancy disappear like a headache, but that’s not how it works. The FDA warns women may experience cramping, bleeding, nausea, weakness, fever and other symptoms. They are physically experiencing the death of their children, alone and at home, without the care of a physician. It’s heartbreaking. If we truly care about women and babies, we must stand against attempts to degrade medical care for desperate women who are being misled about chemical abortions.”
