At NC Values, we believe in protecting all human life, no matter how small. That means standing up for the unborn, defending parental rights, and ensuring that life-creating procedures are conducted ethically—without the destruction of human life.
While IVF can be a blessing for married couples struggling with infertility, it must be performed in a way that respects life, family, and ethical boundaries. We support policies that:
✔ Ensure IVF does not destroy human life
✔ Guarantee that children born through IVF have both a mother and a father
✔ Prohibit surrogacy for embryos created through IVF
Unfortunately, a new bill introduced in the General Assembly seeks to solve a problem that does not exist, and in doing so permanently allow the mass destruction of embryos and other problematic practices.
In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is where the egg is fertilized outside the womb and transferred into the woman’s uterus. It was first used in the 1950s on animals. After much trial and error, in 1978, IVF produced the first live birth. The baby, Louise Brown, became known as the “test tube baby.” To date, there have been more than 10 million babies born through IVF. Unfortunately, more human embryos are destroyed each year through IVF than abortion, and yet North Carolina has no regulations in place to prevent this. Furthermore, these procedures can exploit young women, put mothers at risk, and can lead to serious health complications for conceived children. We cannot allow life to be treated as a commodity, nor support bills that further such an end.
We believe that babies do best when raised by a married mother and father, and we oppose legislation that ignores this reality by opening the way for same-sex couples to produce children through surrogacy. NC Values has been on the ground in Raleigh fighting for policies that uphold the dignity of all human life, and unfettered IVF is not such a policy. There are moral and ethical boundaries that should be established around IVF.
We can’t do this important work alone. Will you stand with us? Your one-time or monthly donation today will help us continue this fight to protect the unborn and to defend the values that strengthen North Carolina families.
