PARENTAL BILL OF RIGHTS LEGISLATION WOULD “LIFT VEIL OF SECRECY” IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND ADDRESS INDOCTRINATION
NC Values Coalition applauded the Parental Bill of Rights introduced in the NC General Assembly Senate this week, sponsored by Senators Amy Galey (SD25), Michael Lee (SD7), and Lisa Barnes (SD11). The bill, S.B. 49, directs schools to keep parents informed about their children’s health issues, and allows them to have total access to curriculum.
“We want the veil of secrecy to be lifted in public schools so parents can know what their children are being taught, and about any significant mental, emotional, or physical health changes,” said NC Values Executive Director Tami Fitzgerald. “In recent years, government bureaucrats and unions have pushed to exclude parents from the educational process, but parents are tired of the secrecy and are demanding their rights be restored.”
In a recent statewide poll commissioned by NC Values Coalition and NC Faith & Freedom Coalition by Differentiators Data, 80 percent of North Carolinians are asking for transparency in schools. This issue was proven to be a unifying issue across party lines and demographics.
“I applaud Senators Galey, Lee and Barnes for introducing legislation reflecting the values and desires of an overwhelming majority of North Carolinians for transparency,” said Fitzgerald. “This legislation would open the lines of communication between parents and schools, help curtail indoctrination, and give parents back their fundamental rights to oversee the education and moral upbringing of their children without interference.”
NC Values has taken leadership to inform the community about indoctrination, hosting three “Mama Bear Workshops” to teach parents how to identify and address indoctrination in their children’s schools, and how to assert parental rights. This year NC Values will be hosting two more “Mama Bear Workshops” yet to be announced and have provided a downloadable resource to accompany the event.
